FIND HARLOW'S WORST POTHOLE!

Harlow Liberal Democrats are inviting you to help them find the worst pothole in Harlow. With the proposed cuts to the Highways maintenance budget, there will be more and more potholes in the months ahead. The Conservatives at Essex County Council have decided to not fix potholes unless they are more than 50mm deep (current standard is 20mm) and to wait much longer before fixing them.

To fight these hazardous proposals, we're asking for your pictures to help us show just how stupid it would be to cut funding. We're asking YOU to send us your photos or nominate the worst pothole to help our campaign to oppose cuts to the Highways budget.

You can use the form on this page to tell us about your worst pothole, or send your photos by email, or by post to Harlow Liberal Democrats, FREEPOST ANG2570, Harlow CM20 3BR. All entries must reach us no later than 31 May 2008. Please send us your name and contact details with your entry so that we can contact you! (The decision of Harlow Liberal Democrats is final.)

Essex Conservatives: Bigger potholes are good for you

March 2008: Essex Conservatives are now claiming that letting potholes get even deeper is good practice!

Meanwhile ...

Rumour says that a Harlow Conservative councillor is one of the first victims of his party's decision to cut back on pothole repairs. The furious local Tory apparently had to spend a lot of money to have two expensive new front tyres replaced after they were damaged by a pothole, and is wanting to know who to sue. 'Criminal', we hear he called it.

TORIES PLAN TO SLASH SPENDING ON FIXING POTHOLES   New

Potholes

Get used to seeing bigger potholes for longer - that's the message from Conservatives at County Hall in Chelmsford, as the party's failure to finance highways properly continues.

Just before Christmas, the Tories announced a £10 million overspend on the highways budget. The latest proposals seem to be to wait until damage to road surfaces gets worse before the county council will even look to see whether it should be fixed or not. In some cases, for example where there is a kerb that doesn't align with the road, the Tories have cut out any commitment to set a date for work to be carried out. For residents in Harlow it will be inconvenient, hazardous and frustrating, with no relief in sight.
