| Release | 3 March 2000 |
Liberal Democrats in Harlow are mourning the loss of local campaigner Glennis George, who died suddenly on 1 March at the age of 51.
Glennis was Chair of Harlow Liberal Democrats, and caseworker for newly-elected councillor Nick Macy in Mark Hall South. She had been selected as prospective candidate for Mark Hall South in the council elections this May, when she was widely tipped to be elected as the second Liberal Democrat councillor for the ward.
Local leader Lorna Spenceley said:
"Glennis' death is a tremendous shock to us all, and we are finding it almost impossible to come to terms with her loss.
"Glennis worked tirelessly for residents in Mark Hall - almost everyone knows someone whom she helped. Despite her past ill health, she showed enormous determination and energy, and she motivated and inspired us all. Glennis really was a 'people person' - a warm friend who made a difference to the life of everyone she met. She would have made a superb local councillor. We will miss her more than we can ever say."
Glennis George grew up in Churchfield,
and went to The Spinney and Mark Hall School - as did her children.
Before moving to Guilfords she lived in Harefield, and was looking
forward to representing the area which had been so central to
her life.
Glennis leaves two daughters Emma and Amanda; a son Gareth; and
five grand-children. Her funeral takes place at noon on Thursday
9 March at the Crematorium.
